ADVENTURE / BAIKAL Snowmobiling break at Baikal

Most welcome to Irkutsk, the capital of eastern Siberia!

Upon arrival to the city, RussiaDiscovery guide will meet you at the airport gates and take you by car/coach to the settlement of Listvyanka. 70 km away from Irkutsk, it is the closest to Irkutsk place on the shore Baikal. We travel with a few stops en route to see taiga-woods and OBO-site to “sprinkle some vodka or milk “, tie ribbons on the bushes in offering to the local spirits. Accommodation in a comfortable cottage, in twin rooms (shared modern amenities).

After check in we’ll go on a guided excursion to Baikal Ecology Museum, which has a large display of unique exhibits of the lake’s flora and fauna.

Enjoy some spare time before the great experience of Siberian steam sauna – banya. Dinner and overnight in the cottage.

After breakfast and preparations we depart from the cottage to the Centre of winter activities and outdoors where our instructors will help us with the equipment fitting and have a safety briefing and snowmobile driving instructions.      

Today we will drive through Siberian taiga to Chernaya Fold, which is located between majestic mountains, near the first settlement of gold diggers on Lake Baikal called Bolshie Koty. En route we will pass by the Cherniy Rivulet. Some time to explore the scenic surroundings on your own before lunch, which will be served as picnic in traditions of Siberian cuisine - freshly smoked omul fish or grilled meat and vegetables. We will continue our trip and start out on a crystal clear Baikal ice. The visibility of water reaches 40 meters and even being on the ice above incredibly deep places, it is possible to see the bottom of the lake! Driving along the eastern shore of the Lake, we return back to Listvyanka.

After breakfast, like yesterday, we depart to the Centre of activities and outdoors. Today we will drive on our snowmobiles on the Baikal ice to the Circum Baikal Railroad. 

Circumbaikal Railroad is a masterpiece of engineering art, it runs along the southwestern coast of Lake Baikal and includes a lot of long tunnels, stone galleries and supporting “Italian” walls which have been carved in the rocks of the adjacent Primorskiy Range. During our trip we will have stops in the most picturesque places of the Circum Baikal railroad.

Upon return to Listvyanka – hot dinner of Siberian cuisine. Transfer to Irkutsk, check in at the hotel downtown, free time to explore the city on your own. Overnight.

After breakfast and check out, transfer to the airport or train station. Farewell to Irkutsk and your guide.
