The Power of Nature
- Whitewater rafting and horse riding in the Altai Mountains -
10 days / 9 nights
 
This itinerary has an excellent combination of two opposite types of travel. Excitement, adrenalin and dynamism of whitewater rafting, powerful rapids, a constantly changing panorama and pungent sensations await you in the first part of the tour along the tumultuous Central Katun river.
And in the end of the trip, while riding the horse, you will pause in time, admire nature and appreciate its harmony.

Itinerary:
Day 1
 
Arrival by an overnight flight from Moscow in Barnaul in the morning, meeting in the airport by your guide. Breakfast in a local café at your own choice and expense. Transfer towards the river and adventures along the legendary Chuisky tract linking Russian and Mongolia, once upon a time an old caravan road (560 km, 8 hrs), with stops on the way at Seminsky pass and Chike-Taman pass. Lunch as a snack on the way.
Arrival at the Katun River. Free time while the instructors are setting up a tent camp and cook dinner over campfire. Help instructors to assemble rafts.
Dinner, the evening of the introduction of tour participants. Overnight in tents
Day 2
 
Breakfast. Rafting instructions and safety briefing. Beginning of rafting from the mouth of the Big Yaloman river – today we will get acquainted with the nuances of the rafting technique. The rafting is exciting almost from the very start, as there are impressive rapids one unlike the other, and many rollers and barrels. The obstacle of the day is the Ilgumen’ rapid (IV grade, 500 m long, with magnificent waves) located on the place where the Big Ilgumen’ flows into the Big Yaloman. Lunch on the shore. Continue rafting till the mouth of the Ailagush river. Set up a tent camp, dinner, overnight in tents.
Day distance rafting: 15 km, 3-6 hours.
Day 3
 
Breakfast. We will pass through a number of interesting rapids, among which are Kadrinskaya truba (14 km long) and Shabash (IV grade). Lunch before the next obstacle – Trap rapid. Set up a tent camp on the river shore, in a pine forest, dinner, overnight in tents.
Day distance rafting: 20 km, 5-6 hours.
Day 4
 
Breakfast. Rest day for walks and exploring the picturesque surroundings. Lunch in the camp. Time at leisure. Dinner and overnight in tents in the mouth of the river Ursul – having a rest, preparing and visiting a tourist sauna. 
Day 5
 
Rafting. The main obstacle of the day is Shabash rapid (800 m long, in 2 steps with high waves and water holes). Lunch on the way. Continue rafting. Set up a tent camp on the river shore, dinner, overnight in tents.
Day distance rafting: 20 km, 5-6 hours
Day 6
 
Breakfast. The last day of our whitewater adventure. Beautiful panoramic views of the mountain peaks, in the afternoon – magnificent Teldek-Pen’rapid located in a 70 m deep tectonic fault. Set up a tent camp, dinner and overnight in tents.
Day distance rafting 30 km, appr 7 hrs.
Day 7
 
Breakfast. Meeting your horse, safety briefing. Packing and loading the luggage bags (archemaks) on the horses. An easy riding trip to get to know your horse. head up the Biika river valley. On the way, a short visit to the primitive peoples cave. Lunch on the way. Leave the birch wood and continue by horse for the Tyasch-Mesch (Young Cedar) Fold – towards the mountains and real cedar forest. Help the groom with taking care of your horse and setting a tent camp. Dinner and overnight in tents.
Day distance horse riding: 12 km, 4 hrs
Day 8
 
Breakfast. Enjoy an unhurried ride along the ridge of the Kuminsky mountain range with an excellent view of the Iolgo ridge and snow-capped Sarlyk (“Wild Yak”) peak, with Katun river down there. Go down past the grid of maral (deer) – growing farm to Biika river. Lunch in the camp, time at leisure. Dinner, farewell fire and overnight in tents.
Day distance horse riding: 15 km, 4 hrs.
Day 9
 
Breakfast. Departure for barnaul (410 km, 6 hrs.) Stop on the way to buy a snack of your choice. Arrival in the city, in case of interest a walk around the city in the company of your guide. Dinner on your own and overnight in a hotel.
Day 10
 
Breakfast in the hotel. Transfer to the Barnaul airport and departure to Moscow by the morning flight.
The Tour Operator reserves the right to introduce alterations to the itinerary due to weather conditions or other factors out of control by the Tour operator.
 
TOUR PRICE per person, summer 2008:
EUR 890 (groups of 8+)
-          valid for own tour operator groups (8+), for departure dates agreed in advance with RussiaDiscovery
-          valid for own groups of a tour operator / travel agent for standard departure dates (8 pax or more).
-          in case of foreign individuals in Russian groups for standard departure dates, the price is EUR 650 + extra-charge for a guide-interpreter (EUR 740 split between foreign participants in a particular group). Pls send an inquiry
 
The price includes: raft and horse rental; hire of other necessary equipment and accessories (tents Loop, rows, helmets, riding gear, etc); accommodation as per itinerary in tents and 1 night in a hotel in Barnaul (twin-basis); transfers as per itinerary; meals as specified in the itinerary; personnel (activity instructor, driver, accompanying language-speaking person); insurance
 
The price does not include: airfare to/from Barnaul, spirits, meals not included in the programme (breakfast Day 1, lunch and dinner Day 9), optional services on spot
